Back in the Camper

Posted on June 27, 2025September 11, 2025 by shinytinymansion

Well, once again, I’ve let our blog go for a year. It’s been an eventful one. This winter, we stayed in a friend’s house in view of Penobscot Bay. It was relatively warm compared to what we would have had in the camper.

In the middle of May, we moved back into the camper.

If you look at our past posts, you will see that we lived in a tiny camper for 7 years in Ohio with 3 cats and a dog. We were in our 30’s, so it was a bit easier. We live similarly as we did back then, but we have a bit more room and running water from a well. I guess we’ve improved in 30 years. : )

It is interesting living this small again. We need to limit the things we have because we simply don’t have room to put anything. My problem, as I have mentioned in earlier posts, is wanting things to be fun and bright. However, instead of collecting things, I’ve decided if we need something, I will look for the most interesting items to fill that need. For example, when we needed a butter dish, I got one of Pioneer Woman’s dishes.

Some people might say that I should have gone to Good Will or a second hand store to get one. I do that, too, but if I can’t find retro items or fun ones, I am fine with buying new.

Some people might also say that there is no need for a butter dish. Those people are stupid. : )

Last summer, I was tasked with gathering up all our belongings in our house in Wooster and deciding what to sell and what to keep. A family was going to rent the house for a year, and we could only keep what could fit in the basement. I had several collections. I wrote about one of them in a prior post.

Angels and the Fightin' Clauses
Well, this is my vintage Christmas collection. I paired it down rather than get rid of it.

I mentioned in an earlier post that a friend of mine has a rule. If she brings something new into the house, something else would have to go. I like that idea. When you live small, this rule can limit things to the items you REALLY love! Hopefully, the list will include the people and furry friends in your life. : )

So, as of today, we have a well, septic, electricity, and internet. We are looking at modular homes for our house. We are working with Rockport Homes currently. Hopefully, we will have a house by the end of the year, but it may go into next year.

I plan to keep posting our progress on this blog and Facebook.

Good to be back!

~Sue

Good morning! So, perhaps the slow movement also includes slow blogging :) I can relate..I get impulses to blog followed by long periods of time that I just don’t get around to it.

But, I am happy that I got a notification about your current post. We are also transplants to Maine and enjoy a small footprint kind of living. We built our house in Phippsburg and moved in in 2022. It was 720 sq ft to begin with, then I added an additional room of 220 sq ft.

But, last summer we returned to a seasonal job that we held before on MDI so, like you, we are currently living in a camper here for the summer season..practically neighbors!

I have a shop project planned back in Phippsburg, but. Also like you, I am finding not quite so easy to dive into a new construction job…hoping that a hip replacement in December will fix that! Time will tell.

It looks like you have some work cut out whether you build yourselves or go the modular route. I hope that you will be motivated to keep up the blog as it would be fun to follow your progress.

If you happen to visit MDI, you would be welcome to join us for a campfire! Jason and janet

      Hi Jason,
Thanks for connecting! Yes, sorry for the late response. We have been on and off again with this blog. It seems by the end of the day, we are too exhausted to write. :( We have had a busy summer–selling our house in Ohio and bringing our stuff up here was a task. I would have written about it, but we have so many arguments when we move, that I just don’t want to think about it later. : ) It seems we have a lot in common. We would love to meet with you and Janet as things start to slow down in fall. October seems to be a slower time for us. I am always happy to meet fellow travelers. –Sue
