A lot has happened this year that we have not talked about. It doesn’t take long to post here, but for some reason I, Sue, just find other things more important.
But…I can’t keep being lackadaisical about our new adventure. We are getting our house built as I write this.
It has been a long journey!
When we bought the property in 2023, it was just 2.8 acres of swampy woodland with a little clearing. The first thing we did was get a well dug so that we could have water in the camper we lived in for 2 summers. During the winter of 2024 and this winter, we have stayed in a friend’s house about 2 minutes away. That makes it convenient for us to walk or quickly drive to our place if we need to do something.
This year, the septic was put in. It covers a large area

I plan to plant wildflowers in that area. I saw a really neat trick for that, and I’ll show that as we move into spring. This fall, we staked out where we wanted the house to go. Ron worked with our builders, Zero Energy Homes, to design the interior. Once the house is weather tight, Ron can get into the inside and begin working on making it awesome. Of course, I will fill it. : )

In October, Ron cut down a hell of a lot of trees! He did this all by himself like Ron Paul Bunyan. Once the trees were cleared out, Jeff Gray, our excavator came in and dug the area for the basement.

Then the cement company came to put in the basement.

Ron insulated the basement inside and out. He also put in the basement windows.
Yesterday, the crew from Zero Energy came to put up the house. Today, they are putting in the doors and windows. Also, they need to do some other finishing jobs like putting in the stairs to the upstairs and the basement.
That’s where we are currently.
I can’t promise anything, but I’ll do my best to keep up with the blog going forward! : )
